Abstract
It is well known that dynamical information can be obtained from resonance light scattering (RLS) experiments [1,2]. In the past many such studies have been performed on gaseous and crystalline samples. A few RLS studies have been reported that were aimed at understanding of solution dynamics, for example in the study of azulene in CS2 [3] and CS2 in hexane [4]. It has been shown [1,2] that in the so-called fast dephasing limit the ratio (R) of the yield of fluorescence and Raman is a direct measure of the system dynamics: R= 2T1/T2*, where T1 is the population relaxation and T2* the pure dephasing time constant. This shows that RTS spectroscopy is an attractive alternative to femtosecond transient spectroscopy [5,6] for obtaining information on the dephasing dynamics, especially in those cases where T1 is short (≤1 ps).
