Abstract
Recent developments in ultrafast infrared spectroscopy have made it possible to study the photo-induced release of carbon monoxide from hemoglobin-CO (HbCO) in some detail (1). Not only was it possible to observe the bound metal carbonyl absorption transients but we have now observed the free carbon monoxide signals that were ca. 50 times weaker.
