Abstract
Dipolar styryl dyes have been used as molecular probes for the non-equilibrium dynamics of the surrounding solvent after ultrafast S0 -> S1 excitation [1,2]. Typically, the dynamic Stokes shift of fluorescence is measured by fluorescence upconversion at different wavelengths. The kinetic traces which are thus obtained must then be used for spectral reconstruction of the fluorescence band as function of time. This method is capable of highest time resolution, but the finer spectral details are likely to be lost in the reconstruction step.
