Abstract

We report the first femtosecond soft x-ray spectroscopy of solvated transition-metal complexes: Structural dynamics mediate ultrafast spin-state conversion and symmetry-specific valence-charge localization. This study demonstrates the unique potential of ultrafast soft x-ray spectroscopy in solutions.
