Abstract

Distortion is an aberration which is not related to the resolution of images formed by the periphery of an ophthalmic lens but merely to their shape. As noted by Bennett and Edgar (1979), relevant factors associated with distortion lie within the domain of visual perception, this could explain why, in the ophthalmic community, there was no uniform approach in the conceptualization and in the quantification of this aberration.
