Abstract
Spectral sensitivities at three different temperatures (approximately +25°C, −75°C, and −185°C) were determined for seven commercial emulsions. For the six optically sensitized emulsions, it was found that the efficiency of optical sensitization decreased as temperature was lowered, except that for three of the emulsions this decrease commenced only somewhere below −75°C. Efficiencies found at approximately −185°C ranged from 1/4 to 1/550 of their values at +25°C. The decrease apparently pertains to the transfer of the action of light from the dye to the silver halide.
