Abstract
Raman spectra, with polarizations, are presented for CER–VIT, fused silica, ULE glass, and a Corning heat-absorbing glass. The spectra of the three amorphous glasses are quite similar. The spectra of these glasses indicate a small scattering unit of low symmetry, perhaps a distorted SiO4 tetrahedron. The spectrum of CER–VIT differs from that of crystalline quartz and from those of the amorphous glasses.
