Abstract
We compare the depletion of the spectral components of pulsed wave fields as they propagate away from their sources. The spectral performance of a narrow localized Gaussian pulse launched from a dynamic aperture is compared with that of the traditional Gaussian-waisted, quasi-monochromatic, and broadband signals generated by flat apertures. The effect of using a derivative receiver to slow down the decay rate of the measured localized wave fields is expounded upon by using the same spectral analysis.
