Abstract
We report stochastic, spatiotemporal dynamics in stimulated Brillouin scattering from single-mode pump pulses propagating through a fiber that supports and modes. Comparison with experiments in single-mode fiber indicates that independent scattering from different modes plays a key role. We also investigate the role of transverse pump fluctuations in driving the observed spatiotemporal intensity dynamics in the scattered beam.
