Abstract
This paper presents the results of a study of the spectral-luminescence and nonlinear-optical properties of new nonlinear-optical materials - glass-ceramics of the lithium-, magnesium-, and zinc-aluminosilicate systems containing spinel nanocrystals with impurity ions of divalent cobalt. The character of the variation of the spectral-luminescence properties of the original glasses during heat treatment is compared with the phase-decay and crystallization processes in these materials. It is shown that <formula><roman>Co</roman>2+</formula> ions enter the spinel nanocrystals in tetrahedral coordination, with the linear and nonlinear optical properties of the resulting transparent materials being similar to those of the corresponding single crystals. It is proposed to use the new glass-ceramic-based nonlinear optical materials as passive shutters for lasers emitting at a wavelength of 1.54 µm.
