Abstract
It has been established that, when phosphors are irradiated by an electron beam, their brightness
increases because of the decay of the ZnS-Cu2S solid solution, with the formation of
additional heterojunctions and "blue" luminescence centers [Cut]dn [CuZn]a. It is shown that
there is an optimum concentration of the dopant (copper) in the phosphor, at which the
greatest increase of brightness and stability is achieved. The luminescence color can be displaced
toward the blue region as a result of the irradiation, not only without lowering the brightness,
but even increasing it.
