Abstract
The basic principles of the training and retraining of personnel in optical engineering in the Russian Federation are indicated. The role of the Instructional-Methods Association of Institutions of Higher Education of Russia in the area of instrumentation and optical engineering is pointed out, and the main directions of its work are presented.
