Abstract
The process of drawing quartz capillaries with subcollapse (SC) of the initial tube-blank has been experimentally investigated. Qualitatively, SC is characterized by an increase of the ratio of the outer diameter to the inner diameter in a capillary being drawn by comparison with the analogous ratio in the original tube. The measure of this increase is the SC factor, ξ>1. The experimental dependences of the SC factor on the temperature of the heater element of a high-temperature furnace, the blank-feed rate, and the drawing rate of the capillary are obtained, and it is shown to be possible to estimate the SC time from the outer and inner axial profiles of the "bulb." An algorithm is proposed for searching for the drawing regimes of a capillary with specified dimensions.
