Abstract

Optics Letters announces the redesign of its journal article pages and new manuscript templates for authors.

© 2015 Optical Society of America

The Optical Society (OSA) constantly looks for opportunities to improve its publications and better serve the optics and photonics community. As part of one such initiative, we are pleased to announce the redesign of the article pages in Optics Letters. Articles in the new format will begin appearing in the June 2015 issues of the journal.

The article design has remained relatively unchanged for decades. It has now been updated to incorporate some elements that are considered best practice today. The new look will give the article pages a cleaner, more modern appearance and will emphasize essential information such as author names. The page layout is also optimized for online viewing and uses more color to incorporate the visual identity of the journal. The Word and LaTeX templates have been updated to reflect the new design and are now available for use when preparing manuscripts for submission. Optics Letters will continue to receive submissions prepared with the old templates until September 1, 2015. After this transition period, all manuscripts should be submitted using the updated templates.

The new format has already debuted in Applied Optics, JOSA A, and JOSA B, and the results have been very positive. Extensive analysis has been done to compare Optics Letters papers in the old and new formats to assess any potential change in the length of papers, and generally the length remains roughly the same.

We look forward to presenting Optics Letters articles in this new, improved design.
