Sodium guide star laser pulsed at Larmor frequency: erratum

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We correct an improper statement on the geomagnetic field of an astronomical telescope site in our original paper [Opt. Lett. 42, 4351 (2017) [CrossRef]  ].

© 2017 Optical Society of America

At the beginning of the second last paragraph in our original paper [1], the sentence of “The repetition rate of 350 kHz in the demonstration is suitable for locations with a geomagnetic field of 0.5 G, Paranal in Chile for example, where the Very Large Telescopes are installed.” is wrong. The geomagnetic field at Paranal is not 0.5 G, but close to 0.2275 G. At major astronomical telescope site around the world, the geomagnetic field ranges from 0.2 to 0.5 G. Therefore, the 350 kHz represents the highest repetition rate required for astronomical application. That is why we have chosen the 350 kHz repetition rate to demonstrate the laser.
