Domino plasmons for subwavelength terahertz circuitry
Authors present a totally new design for surface plasmon polariton waveguides for terahertz (THz) applications, which is easy to fabricate. These waveguides are likely to enable interesting device applications stemming from their unique properties: a dispersion that is nearly insensitive to the waveguides’ width, a nearly flat power distribution within the waveguide, an excellent field confinement factor, and reasonable loss figures.
The examples detailed in the manuscript illustrate nicely the advantages of this waveguide structure, and cover many potential applications at THz frequencies. This work will also probably inspire novel waveguide structures at other regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.
