Low-Noise Frequency Down-Conversion at the Single Photon Level

Abstract

We report on frequency downconversion of single photons from the red spectral region (710nm) to the telecommunications O-band. Difference frequency generation with a long-wavelength pump simultaneously yields high conversion (68%) and high SNR (100:1).
