Experimental Analysis of Transmission and Soft Decoding of Optimized 4D Constellations

Abstract

Different 4D constellation alternatives to PM-8QAM were experimentally investigated exhibiting up to 1-dB improvement at 5E-3 SER. Iterative decoding of LDPC coded 4D constellation POLQAM (6PolSK-QPSK) provided up 4.8-dB gain (3.8E-3, 30-percent overhead).
