Performance of Directly Modulated Laser for 50Gbit/s High Speed Passive Optical Networks with MLSE Equalization

Abstract

We evaluate numerically the performance of DML transceivers for 50Gbit/s HS-PONs. We show that MLSE equalizer enables 20km optical fiber reach at a pre-FEC BER limit of 10-2 in both downstream and upstream.
