Abstract

A two-color laser oscillator emitting simultaneous and separate output pulses coupled with a singlefrequency doubler can provide three additional colors via doubling and sum frequency generation. Such a system was reported by Bethea1 with a three-mirror Nd:YAG oscillator with outputs at 1.318, 1.06, 0.659, 0.589, and 0.532 μm, In Q-switched 1.3-μm YAG lasers, however, the high-gain 1.06 transition severely restricts the magnitude of the stored 4F3/2 population, and the unfavorable 1.06/1.3-μm cross-section ratio limits the attainable 1.3-μm output.
