Abstract
Quantum well slates in GaAs have been observed by many authors.1,2 However, these optical inter- actions have all been observed from valence to conduction band. Instead a transition can be made between two conduction band states. The dipole occurs between two electron envelope wave functions with the Bloch state remaining roughly constant. This is opposite to a band-to-band transition which holds the envelope wave function (or a k vector) constant and takes the dipole between Bloch states.
