Abstract
Interest in long-range LIDAR systems operating in the eyesafe wavelength region has produced a need for optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) capable of generating high pulse energies and high average powers. One-micron-pumped potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystals have the potential to meet the bandwidth constraints imposed by atmospheric transmission windows, have suitable optical damage thresholds, and are commercially available in useful sizes.
