Abstract
The wide availability and low cost of high-power diode-bar pump sources combined with the more recent availability of novel beam-shaping techniques (e.g., Ref. 1), which allow their output to be focused to small beam sizes, has stimulated growing interest in the prospects for power-scaling of low gain or quasi-three-level lasers.
