Abstract

In heavy industries such as shipbuilding, managements of the size of large-scale parts with dimensions of dozen of meter with everal millimeters accuracy are required. urrent laser ranging system, which uses an intensity-modulated light, cannot be used in such fields because of the low measurement accuracy fo r long-range measurements and the need of reAective target. The optical ranging system using a laser diode with optical frequency modulation (FM) is another candidate for ranging system in heavy industries.
