Abstract
In optical subscriber systems, especially time compression multiplexing (TCM) system, a light-emission-and-detection (LEAD) diode1 operating as both a laser and a detector is very attractive to reduce the module cost, by decreasing the number of optical parts and simplifying the assembly of hybrid module.1–4 Furthermore, LEAD diodes are advantageous for eliminating 3 dB-loss due to a splitter between a laser and a detector.
