Abstract

A 1.03 µm Yb:YAG laser, whose lasing wavelength is closer to the absorption center wavelength of praseodymium-doped fiber (1.017 µm), is one of the best candidates for a PDFA pump laser. P. Lacovara et al. have been fabricated a diode pumped Yb:YAG laser.1 However, this laser needs a special wavelength pump LD operating at 0.968 µm. A waveguide-type laser is suitable for a PDFA pump source because it can be easily coupled to fiber components (for example, a WDM coupler). We report here the preparation of a (Yb,Nd):YAG buried channel waveguide laser.
