Abstract

Frequency doubling Ti:sapphire laser is a common concept for obtaining tunable deep-blue and ultraviolet (UV) coherent radiation. A conversion up to 48% was reported with a cw Ti:sapphire laser at 860 nm by using a non-critically phase-matched potassium niobate crystal in a single-frequency pumped and wavelength-locked external cavity.1 If single frequency is not a requirement, intracavity frequency doubling will be a much simpler method for obtaining second-harmonic wave.
