Abstract

We will report the molecular orientation of side chain type liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) deposited under irradiation with a polarized laser beam. Monomers used in this work are shown in Figure 1. The monomer 3–5 can be polymerized to give a side chain type LCPs, while the monomers 1 and 2 give amorphous polymers. The laser pulse (248 nm, 3 mJ/cm2, 10 Hz) was applied into the reaction chamber through a polarizer. The monomer was evaporated from heating cell during the irradiation for 1 hour. The background pressure was 10-4 Pa.
