Enhanced excitonic nonlinearity of a GaAs single quantum well in a microcavity

Abstract

There has been much attention on the optical process of optical microcavities.1 Optical microcavity is useful for the efficient nonlinear optical devices. This is because that the strong optical field confined in a high-Q microcavity enhances the nonlinear optical interactions. Semiconductor planner microcavity is a good candidate to demonstrate the enhanced optical nonlinearity. We present experimental results with a GaAs single quantum well in a half-wavelength microcavity. To clarify the microcavity effect, we tune the exciton resonance energy around the fixed cavity resonance, by using quantum confined Stark effect (QCSE).2
