Abstract

Ce3+:LiSr0.8Ca0.2AlF6 is grown as a new tunable ultraviolet laser medium. Its longer fluorescence lifetime compared with that of Ce3+:LiCaAlF6 is a potential advantage as an amplification medium. The preliminary laser operation is also confirmed.
