Abstract

Optical fiber sensing networks (OFSN) can be defined as sensor systems utilizing optical fiber networks installed in wide area, where the optical fibers play either as signal transmission lines or often as sensing medias. The OFSN, which are distinguished methods reflecting advantageous characteristics of low transmission loss of the optical fiber, is available to monitor infrastructures and life-lines (Fig.1). This paper shows some examples for application studies of wide area OFSNs.
