Abstract

As a tool in the evaluation of various electrooptical systems, it is desirable to be able to measure accurately the atmospheric transmission over long optical paths. Typically, this is accomplished by providing a calibrated radiation source at one end of the path and a calibrated radiometer at the other. The radiation measured by the receiving radiometer is compared with that which would have been received at the same distance in a vacuum, and the ratio is defined as the atmospheric transmission τ.
