Abstract

Gratings are frequently used in dye-laser cavities as wavelength-tuning elements. These gratings usually have the lowest damage threshold of any component in the system and thus determine or limit the maximum energy output available from the laser. It is therefore important to understand the damage characteristics of gratings and how they can be improved.
