Abstract

A high intensity flashlamp is required to pump a dye laser, and for efficient operation typical pulse widths must be on the order of 1 μsec or less. The strength of wall materials limits the familiar wall stabilized flashlamps in the amount of peak power and average power that can be discharged. In addition, the confined arc erodes wall material and greatly reduces the lifetime of these flashlamps.
