Real-time optical matched filtering of moonlight illuminated objects

Abstract

A multiple optical matched filter automatic image recognition system described earlier1 has had two additional features added. The first new feature consists of an incoherent to coherent image transducer that permits processing incoherent imagery through the optical matched filter bank. The second new feature incorporates an image intensifier that can present a moonlit scene to the transducer. The present system, therefore, permits a moonlit scene to amplitude modulate a collimated laser beam. An object in the scene can then be recognized and tracked by the automatic image recognition system.
