Abstract

Today, many industrial processes are monitored and controlled by measuring the polarization of light. Ellipsometry, for example, is a well known method in the fields of microelectronics and electrochemistry. Polarimetry is a well established technique for the quantification of optically active species in solutions. Nearly all of the commercially available systems use a rotating analyzer to detect the state of polarization. The mechanical movement limits the speed of the measurement, the size of the system critically determines the price of the devices.
