Abstract

Various optical elements were recently described, which allow the formation of optical beams that contain a phase singularity.1,2 Because of this singularity the amplitude of the optical field becomes zero; a dark spot appears in the neighborhood of the singularity. In the referenced articles, binary computer generated holograms (CGHs) are used to create such light beams.
