Abstract

Optoelectronic logic units have attracted much research interest1 owing to their potential applications in optical computing and optical signal processing. A simple way to implement the logic structures is by the use of metal-semiconductormetal (MSM) photodetectors.2 We have designed and fabricated logic gates including AND, OR, NAND, exclusive-OR (XOR), and exclusive-NOR (XNOR) on GaAs. A high-speed optoelectronic serial adder is also constructed from a combination of AND, OR, and XOR units.
