Abstract
We have previously reported large (40%) increases in the output power and efficiency of an infrared (1.13, 1.50 μm) barium vapour laser (BVL) with the addition of ~3% hydrogen.1 We now report more detailed investigations of the mechanisms of hydrogen in the discharge of a BVL, and extend the discussion to BVLs with He, Ne-He, and He-H2 buffer gases.
