Abstract
The response time of the photorefractive phase-conjugate mirror can be improved by focusing the input beams and thus increasing the light intensity. A self-pumped phase-conjugate mirror in a reflection-grating ring geometry was shown to be suitable for focused input beams.1 The rise time of several milliseconds was observed with a 100-mW input probe beam. When the beams are sharply focused, however, the phase-conjugate wave may become sensitive to the changes in the angle and the position of the input probe beam. The probe beam and the feedback beam must overlap in a sufficiently long region for the generation of the phase-conjugate wave.
