Abstract

Short pulse amplification has been widely investigated down to the sub-100 fs regime in the third telecommunications window around 1.55µm. Amplification in the important 1.3µm telecommunications band has recently attracted much attention, whereby Pr -doped fluoride fibre amplifiers (PDFAs) with gains up to 38.2 dB have been reported. However, investigation of pulse propagation in active fluoride fibres and demonstration of short pulse amplification has not been demonstrated.
