Modulation, chirp, and tunability properties of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers integrated with quantum-well modulators

Abstract

We show that use of quantum-well absorbers within the Bragg reflectors of GaAs/AlGaAs-based vertical cavity surface emitting lasers results in improved chirp and modulation characteristics. Further enhancement can be obtained using strained InGaAs/GaAs.
