Abstract
Self-pulsating lasers are used for optical storage and have been proposed for subcarrier networks.1 In single-section lasers the pulsation frequency can only be controlled by the injection current and is restricted by absorber bleaching. Furthermore, the pulsation frequency is not well defined owing to tolerances in the fabrication process. Multisection lasers offer the possibility of independent control of gain and absorption due to the separate bias.
