Travelling-wave parametric generation in LBO with microjoules pump pulses

Abstract

Travelling-wave optical parametric generation (TOPG) is a simple approach to add tunability to fixed frequency ultra-short pulses.1 For many applications, it is desirable, beside preserving the short duration of the pump for the tunable pulses, to operate TOPG with a pump energy as low as possible.1 To this end, the temperature-tuned LBO in noncritical phasematching appears favoured in comparison to other crystals.2 While the small group velocity dispersion (GVD) make LBO quite suitable in the femtosecond regime, as we already showed with 200-fs pulses,2 the large acceptance angle allows a tight focusing of the pump,3 and then to achieve the high intensities required by TOPG with modest energy, as shown in the following.
