Abstract

Previous studies of helical cathode He-Cu and Ne-Cu lasers show that an increased transparency of the helix results in both higher gain on laser lines and higher laser output power.1–3 To optimize laser operation, information about the dependence of different discharge parameters upon helix transparency and their influence upon metal atom, metal ion, and buffer gas ion densities is necessary.
