Abstract
The copper vapour laser (CVL) provides an efficient source of high repetition rate laser radiation operating at two wavelengths simultaneously—510.6 nm in the green and 578.2 nm in the yellow. The CVL wavelengths are well matched to the absorption bands of the Ti3+ ion in the sapphire host. We have already shown that both high efficiencies and narrow linewidths can be obtained from CVL-pumped Ti:sapphire laser systems over the range 720-950 nm.1 By frequency-doubling a CVL-pumped Ti:sapphire laser, we have recently demonstrated an efficient source of high repetition rate tunable laser radiation in the blue/ultra-violet region of the spectrum.
