Abstract

In the last time Cr4+-doped crystals have been applied to create tunable solid-state lasers near the 1.5 μm spectral range, which were pumped by the emission of the Nd-lasers. Of particular interest are Cr4+-lasers which are laser diode pumped, but this problem has not been solved up to now. We suppose that the best way to achieve this goal is to use Cr4+ doped crystal fibers as the active elements of the lasers. In this case the pumping area is limited by the fiber and the volume is small enough to achieve the necessary power density of the pumping.
