Abstract

Monitoring mechanical strength and integrity of critical civil structures are of great importance for their safety. Mechanical properties of materials and structures are tested and surveyed by measuring strain and deformation under static and dynamic load. Many fiber optical detection concepts have been proposed and investigated [1,2]. But the industrial acceptance of fiber optical sensors will be low unless performance and reliability of optical sensors are demonstrated.
