Abstract

Exciting the HeCd mixture by nuclear reaction products has permitted laser generation on green (533.7 nm and 537.8 nm) and blue (441.6 nm) Cd-ion lines. However, lasing on λ = 325.0 nm (a 5s22D3/2 - 5p2P1/2 transition similar to the 5s22D5/2 - 5p2 P3/2 transition for λ = 441.6 nm) has not yet been obtained with nuclear pumping. Inasmuch as the processes of excitation of the atmospheric-pressure HeCd medium by nuclear pumping and electron beam pumping are alike and are determined primarily by the power of the energy contribution, electron beams can be used to simulate nuclear pumping.
