Broadband EDFA With Flat Gain Response

Abstract

Dense WDM techniques in lightwave networks increase transmission capacity and improve system flexibility. Gain flatness of conventional EDFAs limits the number of WDM channels. Several techniques1,2 for EDFA gain equalization have been investigated, but with various shortcomings. This paper reports a double-pass EDFA with a flat-gain and) a high saturated output signal power.
