Abstract

Dense WDM techniques in lightwave networks increase transmission capacity and improve system flexibility. Gain flatness of conventional EDFAs limits the number of WDM channels. Several techniques^1,2 for EDFA gain equalization have been investigated, but with various shortcomings. This paper reports a double-pass EDFA with a flat-gain and) a high saturated output signal power.
